10 Self Care Secrets to Help You Stay Sane As a Mom
There is a saying that goes, “the days are long, but the years are short”. When I first became a mom, I definitely felt this way.
I would count the minutes until my husband came home, so I could have another adult to talk with or just have a few moments to go to the bathroom all by myself.
Motherhood has been the most rewarding job I have ever had, but it is not without its challenges.
If you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and like you want to pull your hair out, keep reading Mama.

How to Tame the Rollercoaster of Motherhood
Motherhood is a maze of decisions, a rollercoaster of emotions, and it has a much steeper learning curve than you could have possibly imagined, right?
Motherhood will transform your life in the most amazing ways, but it is no easy feat.
The key to staying sane in motherhood is finding balance.
Over time I have found simple ways to practice self-care, find balance, and enjoy motherhood.
Here are some of the best-kept secrets to help you take care of you, so you can stay sane and have more fun as a mom:
1. Bring More of YOU into Your Day
This might sound like an impossible task as a busy mom, but hear me out. When you take time to care for yourself you will find you are able to get more done, feel calm, and have more fun as a mom.
Take at least a few minutes each day to do something just for you. It doesn’t have to be grand or extravagant, but do something that makes you feel loved and cherished. This will go a long way towards helping you enjoy mom life.
2. Kickstart Your Mornings
Starting your mornings with intention and self-care can help you to bring more ease, energy, and fun into the rest of your day. An easy way to do this is to create a self-care ritual that you can practice every morning.

3. Bring More Play Into Your Day
One of the fabulous things about motherhood is that you get to play.
Allowing yourself the time and space to play and be adventurous with your little ones is a great way to bring more of you and your personality into mom life.
Sometimes becoming a mom can feel like all work and no play. But one of the best gifts you can give yourself and your children is more playfulness.
4. Trim Down Your Schedule
As moms, we are natural caregivers and nurturers. We want to take care of everyone, and often feel guilty for saying no. But allowing the unnecessary things to drop off of your schedule can help you to create more space for more of what is important to you and your family.
5. Get Outside
Taking time to enjoy the beauty of nature can help to energize and refresh you. Whether you just sit outside and soak up the sunshine, go for a walk, or play with your kids, spending time in nature is a beautiful way to nourish your body and nurture your soul.
6. Just Breathe
Pausing to breathe is a simple way to find calm in any moment. Your breath goes with you wherever you go and can be used to help you feel calm and help you come back to awareness of the present moment.
Anytime you feel upset or anxious, be sure to pause and take some deep calming breaths.
7. Practice Yoga
Yoga is a great way to bring more balance and flexibility to mom life, literally!
Sometimes it can be a challenge to get to a yoga class, so one way you can bring more yoga into your day is to create an at-home yoga practice. There are some great free yoga videos that can guide you in your practice.
8. Let Your Creativity Flow
Whether it is coming up with ideas for amazing crafts to do with your kids or artistic and creative projects just for you. Allowing yourself time each week to spark your creativity is a great way to bring more of you into your life as a mom.
9. Connect with Other Moms
Connecting with and nurturing friendships with other moms will help you to know that you are not alone in the challenges and struggles that you face as a mom.
Finding a playgroup, mommy and me classes, or connecting with moms at other events and activities will help you to create friendships, discover new ideas and perspectives, as well as feel supported as a mom.
10. Cultivate Gratitude
Gratitude is a daily practice that you can cultivate to help you transform your view of motherhood and life so that you can find beauty even in the messiest moments in mom life.
Take a moment each day to find things to appreciate and be thankful for. You may even like to jot them down in a journal or notebook as a way to enhance this lovely practice.
You’ve Got This, Mama!
Prioritizing my self-care has not only helped me to bring balance to motherhood, but it has also helped me to have more fun being a mom.
Remember that although you are in the season of motherhood right now it is okay to incorporate and nurture other aspects of yourself.
